Raisi's helicopter crashed today in northwest of Iran. It has been more than 4 hours, but the regime's media says he is not found yet, and no one answers his phone. It looks like they don't want to admit it yet.

I personally hope that he is hurt as bad as possible, but not dead. I hope he lives to be trialed in a court for his crimes, specially the 1988 massacre of political prisoners.

By the photo you cannot have a heavy landing any heavier. Unfortunately death was very quick for all of them. The pilot was a utterly useless getting him self in that position in the first place and secondly flying such a load of worn out shit...

I was hoping to find you on this.

Over here they are reporting the regime is still trying to reach the crash site. They are showing video of heavy fog and "remote" mountainous terrain. But its been two hours since you posted this and I have a very hard time believing at least the search and rescue first responders couldn't reach the site in that amount of time and know whether Rasi is alive or dead. One thing for sure though is if Rasi is hurt very bad the window for his survival is closing very fast.

And if Raisi is dead do you have any predictions if that would be a good thing or a bad thing for the regime and the world?

Here's just a little blurb on it from our side. But this is not the best source.

JUST IN: Iranian President’s Life ‘At Risk’ Following Helicopter’s ‘Hard Landing’ — Official Confirms
    Alex GriffingMay 19th, 2024, 9:38 am

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi’s helicopter suffered a hard landing Sunday in a remote area, according to Iranian state TV, which added that rescue teams are being deployed to the site.

Reuters reported in the hours following the breaking news that an Iranian official told the news agency that the “lives of President Raisi and Foreign Minister Amirabdollahian are at risk following the helicopter crash.”

Reuters initially reported on the confusion surrounding the event, writing that “Iranian media provided contradictory reports about the incident and there has been no official confirmation yet.” Iran’s interior minister soon after confirmed the news on state TV and noted that weather conditions were hindering the search and rescue operation and that they were awaiting further details. Iran’s foreign minister was also aboard the helicopter, which was returning the leaders from a meeting with the president of Azerbaijan.

The Associated Press reported, “Raisi was traveling in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. State TV said the incident happened near Jolfa, a city on the border with the nation of Azerbaijan, some 600 kilometers (375 miles) northwest of the Iranian capital, Tehran.”

“Rescuers were attempting to reach the site, state TV said, but had been hampered by poor weather conditions. There had been heavy rain and fog reported with some wind. IRNA called the area a ‘forest,’” AP added.

All the signs are showing that he is dead, and perhaps has been for hours. The state media is just hesitant to report it. It's unimaginable that no one has reached the crash site yet.

I don't think his death changes anything. He was never a real president, and had no say in important decisions. Khamenei is ruling Iran like a king. He will install a new puppet to do his petty works. Raisi was almost illiterate and had no special talent, so finding another self seller like him is not hard.

Thanks It is almost comical over here. Of course our media can't come right out and say Rasi is dead. But they keep showing the excuses the regime is coming up with for claiming they can't reach the site of the "hard landing." And then asking questions like gee no cell phone service where it landed? No foreign intelligence satellite help? First responders on foot can't even make it there? Its their way of saying he's dead and the regime is hiding that fact.

And I guess I was afraid if Rasi is dead it won't make any difference. Everyone seems to be interchangeable and as you say only Khomeini counts. And I doubt we will be lucky enough to have him get on a helicopter any time soon.

Its probably safe to assume the AP probably doesn't really know shit. Its not like they have a lot of access in Iran. But apparently Iranians might know more than the rest of us and Rasi is dead with no love lost. Western media sources are reporting fireworks being shot off all over the country.

What do we know so far about the mysterious crash of the helicopter carrying Iran's president?
    BY ABBY SEWELL

BEIRUT (AP) — The apparent crash of a helicopter carrying Iran's president and foreign minister on Sunday sent shock waves around the region.

Details remained scant in the hours after the incident, and it was unclear if Iranian President leaving the page." data-wf-tooltip-position="bottom" data-wf-reset-every="90">Ebrahim Raisi and the other officials had survived.

Here's what we know so far.

WHO WAS ON BOARD THE HELICOPTER AND WHERE WERE THEY GOING?

The helicopter was carrying Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the country’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, the governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan province and other officials and bodyguards, according to the state-run IRNA news agency. Raisi was returning from a trip to Iran’s border with Azerbaijan earlier Sunday to inaugurate a dam with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, the news agency said.

WHERE AND HOW DID THE HELICOPTER GO DOWN?

The helicopter apparently crashed or made an emergency landing in the Dizmar forest between the cities of Varzaqan and Jolfa in Iran's East Azerbaijan province, near its border with Azerbaijan, under circumstances that remain unclear. Initially, Interior Minister Ahmad Vahidi said the helicopter “was forced to make a hard landing due to the bad weather and fog.”

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF THE SEARCH OPERATIONS?

Iranian officials have said the mountainous, forested terrain and heavy fog impeded search-and-rescue operations. The president of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, Pir-Hossein Koulivand, said 40 search teams were on the ground in the area despite “challenging weather conditions.” The search is being done by teams on the ground, as “the weather conditions have made it impossible to conduct aerial searches” via drones, Koulivand said, according to IRNA.

IF RAISI DIED IN THE CRASH, HOW MIGHT THIS IMPACT IRAN?

Raisi is seen as a protégé to Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and a potential successor for his position within the country’s Shiite theocracy. Under the Iranian constitution, if he died, the country’s first vice president, Mohammad Mokhber, would become president. Khamenei has publicly assured Iranians that there would be “no disruption to the operations of the country” as a result of the crash.

WHAT HAS THE INTERNATIONAL REACTION BEEN?

Countries including Russia, Iraq and Qatar have made formal statements of concern about Raisi’s fate and offered to assist in the search operations.

Azerbaijani President Aliyev said he was “deeply concerned” to hear of the incident, and affirmed that Azerbaijan was ready to provide any support necessary. Relations between the two countries have been chilly due to Azerbaijan’s diplomatic relations with Israel, Iran's regional arch-enemy.

Saudi Arabia, which is traditionally a rival of Iran although the two countries have recently made a rapprochement, also expressed concern in a statement and said it “stands by Iran in these difficult circumstances.”

There was no immediate official reaction from Israel. Last month, following an Israeli strike on an Iranian consular building in Damascus that killed two Iranian generals, Tehran launched hundreds of missiles and drones at Israel. They were mostly shot down and tensions have apparently since subsided.

If fireworks were being shot off all over Iran it is reasonable to assume that they were not signs of grief, but celebration.

Iran is a dangerous country. I wonder if the government is close to being overthrown, and if a new government would be more friendly to the West, and especially to the United States and Israel.

During our War in Vietnam there were lots of anti war demonstrations. Nevertheless it was not until 1971 that public opinion surveys showed that most Americans thought that it was a mistake for the United States to become militarily involved in Vietnam. Moreover, in 1972 President Nixon was re elected in a landslide.

President Raisi’s helicopter crashes in Iran: What we know so far

A helicopter carrying Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi and the foreign minister crashed while travelling back from East Azerbaijan.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has yet to be found, despite conflicting reports that the location where his helicopter went down had been found.

But those reports were quickly dismissed by the Iranian Red Crescent and the world continues watching Iranian emergency crews searching for Raisi in a remote area near the Dizmar Protected Area in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province where his helicopter went down, while the rest of the convoy continued.

Raisi was returning from Iran’s border with Azerbaijan, where he and the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated a cooperative dam project, the latest sign of warming relations between the two countries. Twenty rescue teams as well as an unknown number drones have been sent to the area where the helicopter came down.

Information is slowly emerging on this incident, but here is what we know so far.

    What happened?
Reports of a helicopter in the president’s convoy crashing first circulated on social media and were quickly picked up by local media. An initial report by the state-linked Mehr news website said Raisi had opted to travel to Tabriz by car due to the foggy weather conditions, and that he was safe.

The news was subsequently taken down after state television confirmed that the missing helicopter was carrying Raisi and the other officials. State television said the helicopter suffered a “hard landing”.

A “hard landing” is when an aircraft lands harder and faster than it should, because of the weather, pilot errors, or mechanical issues.

    Who was in the helicopter?
Travelling with Ebrahim Raisi were Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province Governor Malek Rahmati, and Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem, the representative of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei to East Azerbaijan, according to state media.

    Where did the helicopter fall?
It fell in the Dizmar Protected Area, a wildlife corridor across the border with Azerbaijan.

State TV initially said the helicopter fell near Jolfa, a city on the border with Azerbaijan but later it put it farther east near the village of Uzi.

According to state television, Dizmar experienced sudden bad weather, leading to the accident.

    [Al Jazeera]
    Did all three helicopters disappear?
No, two of the three helicopters in the president’s convoy made it back safely to the city of Tabriz.

Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian and Housing and Transportation Minister Mehrdad Bazrpash were in the helicopters that made it back safely.

What’s the problem? Why can’t they find the helicopter passengers?
Rescuers were attempting to reach the site, state TV said, stating that in addition to tens of rescue crews, there were several ambulances and drones deployed in the search.

However, all efforts have been hampered by poor weather conditions, with heavy rain and fog reported with some wind.

News agency IRNA said the area is a “forest” that is difficult to access.

What’s the latest on the ground? Is anyone helping?
Muddy terrain and nighttime dark are hampering rescue teams trying to locate the crash site.

The European Commission’s Copernicus satellite mapping system has been activated to help with the response, crisis management commissioner Janez Lenarcic said on X.

Iraq has instructed its interior ministry, the Red Crescent and other bodies to help with the search.

How are people feeling? What are they saying?
After the news of President Raisi’s helicopter disappearing was confirmed, calls went out for Iranians to pray for his safety and the safety of the people with him in the aircraft.

The government has not made many formal statements about what happened, as there are still many details that are not clear.

Was something wrong with his helicopter?
There is still no confirmation on what type of helicopters were carrying Raisi and his entourage. They could have been army helicopters or Red Crescent aircraft.

Iran operates a range of helicopters, but many date back to before the country’s 1979 Islamic revolution. Due to the sanctions and financial constraints, Iran has had difficulties purchasing spare parts, making maintenance a challenge.

Who’s in charge in Iran while the president is missing or if he dies?
First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber, 69, will assume power in Raisi’s absence.

This needs the approval of the Supreme Leader after the sitting president is confirmed deceased or incapacitated.

An election must then be arranged within no more than 50 days. Iran was scheduled to hold presidential elections in 2025.

Supreme Leader Khamenei reassured Iranians there would be no disruption to state affairs.

Marwan Bishara, Al Jazeera’s senior political analyst, said that Iran’s political system could indeed absorb any shock from Raisi’s incapacitation, with its strong governing elite and system of functional checks and balances.

The helicopter was a Bell 212 or a UH1N in its military guise .A very old plane so was the crash caused by using parts bought on the black market or the parts they copy themselves to keep US equipment flying .Iranian aviation is well know for aircraft falling out of the sky.(and that's not just there drones)

Finally its confirmed by the "state media." So we still can't be sure he's dead because all the state media does is lie.

State media report President Raisi's death after helicopter crash

All nine people on board of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter which crashed in the country's north-west have died, the state news agency IRNA and state television have reported.

Raisi and Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian are among the nine dead, according to state media.

On Monday morning IRNA published images taken by a drone showing debris from what appears to be a completely destroyed aircraft on a steep slope in the middle of the forest.

Raisi and Amirabdollahian were travelling back from a meeting with the president of neighbouring Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, when their aircraft disappeared from radar on Sunday afternoon.

We need @Fateme in on this because she's got the expertise and inside track. But I think just generally we can get a hint which way Ayatollah Khomeini wants to push Iran by who he replaces Raisi with. It could be someone more radical, moderate, or about the same. But whoever it is I am pretty sure he will be hand picked by Khomeini.

It took until midnight in Iran, but the state media finally confirmed his death. Everyone I spoke to was happy he died. I'm just sorry he died before being trialed.

According to the law, the first vice president, Mohammad Mokhber (who is known for his corruption and incompetence) takes Raisi's place, and another "election" should be held in 50 days. Of course, the whole "election" process is a sham in Iran. The candidates are handpicked by the Guardian Council of Iran, and the people are merely allowed to declare their loyalty to the regime. I don't expect anything to change. The "president" has never had much say in matters, and is pretty much labeled as "procurement officer" in Iran.

By the way, the present supreme leader is Khamenei. Khomeini was the previous one who died in 1989. Iranian people celebrate both of them with the slogan "death to Khamenei, damnation to Khomeini"!

The funny thing is: the Iranian rescue team couldn't find the crash site even after 12 hours. Finally, a drone which has sent by Turkey found the site at midnight! So much for the super power of the region!

Thanks for explaining this. I've always found it comical the way Iran makes such a show of "electing" a president when its a done deal from the start.

And thanks for straightening me out on this. I usually do a search to make sure I have the right spelling. Which doesn't do any good if I have the wrong supreme leader.

Amazing but it also seems typical to me. Just about any time anything big happens the regime responds like laughable Keystone Cops that can't do anything right. I don't see how they can remain in power when the leaders are that incompetent. About the only thing they are good at is terrorizing, abusing, raping and killing their own citizens.
