When you boil it down what you get is a girl who parrots back a few stray statistics that she’s heard and probably does not fully understand.

But she was made a spokesman based upon the belief that it would be too politically damaging to disparage her.

Yes she is very emotional but emotions are not tools of cognition. Yes she is passionate but passions are not arguments.

I fully support her winning a ribbon at a science fair but that’s about all the recognition she deserves. And even that would be contingent upon it not being a day that she’s called a school strike.

Well that science ribbon that you're donating will sit nicely next to her nomination for a Nobel Prize and the French Freedom Prize that she won just a couple of months ago.

I’m sorry but she pressed the nuclear button when she tried to get me banned. That was lower than anything I ever said or did to her.

She’s been very emphatic about the kinds of speech she wants allowed. Mine offends her.

I generally ignore her because I believe she is trying to bait me into saying or doing something bannable.

And yes when I was a kid when my teeth were crooked and my ears stuck out I was ridiculed. But I had the strength of spirit to let it run off my back.

We used to say sticks and stones will break my bones but names can never hurt me. That’s when as a people we weren’t hypersensitive.

 

Yes and Obama won a Nobel before he even did anything.

People on the Nobel committee can be very emotional.

When she writes an original and peer reviewed thesis on climate science then she can be taken seriously.

I have no idea what the French freedom prize is. Did they also give one to Jerry Lewis as they feel he is a comic genius.

When has Greta ever claimed to be a climate scientist?.

 

I have no idea if she ever claimed to be or not.
The fact is that she is speaking authoritatively on a very complicated scientific phenomenon when she has had no formal training in it.
We disagree about how settled the science is probably but this topic should be debated between scientists.
The decisions made affect industries across the world and the angry rantings of some kid should be put into perspective.

In my experience, when you start insulting someone based on superficial things like looks or age, it means you have nothing intelligent left to say. I don’t know anything about what happened between the 2 of you and I don’t care. It’s all just more of the same drama crap that seems to follow certain people around. But I am truly tired of men attacking women with this bullshit. We are not our age or our weight or our tits. Be pissed off all you want at someone, but if you were mad at a guy, would you have commented on their age or looks or avatar?

My point was that this whole argument about climate science should be argued by academics but instead we are given this angry kid snarling about her lost childhood. No one is even questioning what that even means. How has this issue affected her life at all much less ruined her childhood?

In a speech to the United Nations, Prime Minister Scott Morrison blasted those using the climate change “anxiety” of children to further their political ends:

“We must respect and harness the passion and aspiration of our younger generations, we must guard against others who would seek to compound or, worse, facelessly exploit their anxiety for their own agendas. We must similarly not allow their concerns to be dismissed or diminished as this can also increase their anxiety.”

Scott insisted that children should be allowed to be just that:

“Above all, we should let our children be children, let our kids be kids, let our teenagers be teenagers, while we work positively together to deliver the practical solutions for them and their future.”

In my opinion, using children to push politics is as crass as it gets. Children don't deserve the weight of the world. It's our job to watch over it while they play.

It appears to be an increasing maneuver.


In my view, this new era began on Valentine’s Day, 2018. The use of Parkland kids as pawns was extremely hard to watch. Those youngsters were made to think they were saving the world, as if this was their anointed purpose on earth — they were the empowered heroes the planet would one day thank. It seems to me they were pumped full of messianic promise; then the news cycle reset, and they were unceremoniously dumped.

For a moment in time, inexperienced teens believed their names would go down in history. Then the media got wind of a new story, and it was, “Parkland who?”

As for Scott’s comments, they come, of course, after a controversial emotional speech by Sweden’s Greta Thunberg, a 16-year-old who came across earlier this week as terribly beset by frantic despair due to an around-the-corner Armageddon.

I take them very seriously and I deeply respect their concerns and indeed I welcome their passion, especially when it comes to the environment.

To focus their minds and direct their energies to practical solutions and positive behaviour that will deliver enduring results for them.

To encourage them to learn more about science, technology, engineering and maths – because it’s through research, innovation and enterprise that the practical work of successfully managing our very real environmental challenges is achieved.
